Momma's Wall of Fame creation
When my Momma went to be with the Lord in September of 2004, my world crashed in. She had fought breast cancer for over 5 years. She had always been a rock to me and had never quenched my spirit to become a writer and singer. We were at our old family home making funeral arrangements. My brother, Bo, turned to me and said, "Would you just look at Momma's Wall of Fame." Well that night I stayed up all night writing the song but could not record it for almost 4 years. I had to go to some very dark places and deal with a lot of grief. Then one day, out of the blue, I found the happiness that only God can give. He spoke to my Spirit and I understood that Momma was in a better place, not hurting anymore. I had been selfish to try and hold her here when she was so happy where she was. Many mornings when I wake up, I play the song. It has been recorded several times and each artist has done a wonderful vocal on it. Their interpretation is wonderful. Sometimes when we write we have to search for words, lines, and ideas. This song was just written from the heart of a young boy, now a man, who loved his Momma and missed her. This song seems to speak to almost everyone and everytime I play it live, I love to watch the crowd sing along. Thanks to my brother Bo and all of you who like this song. Marty.
